Introduction
The Public Health Unit, Hospital Putrajaya was established in 2001. In establishment time it has only one Assistant Environmental Health Officer U32. In 2008, one designations of Assistant Environmental Health Officer U29 were being approved. Now, The Public Health Unit staffed by 2 people who are cooperating to ensure The Public Health Unit activity runs smoothly.


Mission
To create a hospital atmosphere and the environment that is cheerful, comfortable, safe and under control from the cause of infection disease.


Objective
a) Plan and implement prevention and control of communicable diseases that are not contagious and spread from patient to patient, from patient to patient and from members of the public during their stay in hospital.
b) Plan, organize and coordinate the work of prevention and control of vector-borne diseases in the hospital. 
c) Plan, organize and coordinate the activities of the Food Safety and Quality at the hospital.
d) Plan, manage, coordinate and evaluate the activities related to the enforcement of Health Acts in the hospital.
e) Plan, execute and monitor Occupational Health and Safety programs at the hospital.
f) Plan, organize and coordinate to ensure all Putrajaya Hospital environmental areas are free from cigarette smoke through anti cigarette monitoring program and enforcement.
g) Cooperate with the Water Quality Control Unit at Putrajaya Health Office during water sampling activities and water testing analysis.


Public Health Unit Function
a) Monitoring notification of infection disease case in Putrajaya Hospital.
b) Monitoring Vector control activity.
c) Carry out food premise inspection.
d) Carry out prohibition enforcement of smoking activity compounds in hospital.
e) Monitoring Water Quality Control activity.
f) Collaborating with the Health Education Unit in promoting Environmental Health and Public Health activities.
g) Investigate all case complaints related to Environmental and Public Health.
h) Notification of communicable disease infectious operation.


Activities For Major Functions
1) Ensure operation notification Putrajaya Hospital's infectious cases of the disease according to need subsection 10 (2) Prevention And Control Of Communicable Disease Act 1988 and used by to notify disease cases that  are being treated at Putrajaya Hospital.
a) Monitor notification infectious disease case.
b) Helps in preliminary investigation of infectious disease cases.
c) Provide monthly reports.
d) Member of District Surveillance Committee.
e) Member of District Outbreak Control Committee.
f) Investigate complaint about delay notification and death case in hospital.

2) Aedes study and vector control

To ensure no larva breeding in hospitals around the area and used by to monitor and wipe out larva in hospitals around the area according to work procedures that are fixed.
a) Aedes study all over Putrajaya Hospital area
b) Conduct research ovitrap
c) Issue a warning letter if there is breeding
d) Monitor activity abating and 'fogging'
e) Investigate complaints relating vector control

3) Food Quality Control
Ensure food production that was conducted by premise and food presentation kitchen in Putrajaya Hospital were clean and safe to be eaten and used by examiner and food handling monitoring followed the prescribed procedure.
a) Check food premises/ offering kitchen
b) Monitor food sampling activity (Microbiology Test) to be delivered to Public Health Lab
c) Investigate complaints on Food Safety

4) Enforcement Operation Ban Smoking In Hospital Areas
Ensure no people are smoking in hospital compounds. This is in keeping with order and Malaysia Government circular that all public places and Government Premise were free from cigarette smoke and used by to monitor action and take on smokers by issuing warning letters or compound/summon on failure to obey no smoking order in Hospital Putrajaya Area.
a) Cigarette operation in the whole Putrajaya Hospital area.
b) Produce Court Attending Order Notice if necessary and record it.
c) Issue a warning letter or compound/summon.
d) Joint operation with Investigation And Prosecution Unit from the Putrajaya District Health Office.
e) Provide investigation paper, report, charge sheet and summons for prosecution purpose in court.

5) Water Quality Control Monitoring
Monitor water supply cleanliness level in Putrajaya Hospital through water sampling which is done by the Water Quality Control Unit from the Putrajaya District Health Office. Receiving feedback of water quality level monthly and investigating complaints relating to water quality.
a) Cooperating in sampling activity water with Water Quality Control Unit at Putrajaya District Health Office.
b) Collect data and information on water quality parameters in hospitals.
c) Investigate and report complaints relating to water quality.
d) Monitor  the water storage tank wash activity in the hospital.


Other activities
Occupational Safety And Health.
a) Ensure notification of occupational disease among workers cases being reported, conducting early investigation about incident and coordinate OSH committee activities.
     (i) Acting as Safety Health Officer for practicing Occupational Safety Health Act in Putrajaya Hospital.
    (ii) Planning and coordinating OSH Committee activities as secretary.
   (iii) Give awareness about Occupational Safety And Health among hospital workers.
   (iv) Manage and monitor Notification of Occupational Disease and Accidents among hospital workers.
    (v) Investigating complaints that related to safety and occupational accident.
